PDF and EPUB Versions of Magento Product Types: Developer’s Guide

I am happy to announce that my book Magento Product Types: Developer’s Guide is now available as PDF and EPUB on Leanpub! I have long been promising a version other than Kindle, and now there it is:

Leanpub offers a .mobi (Kindle) version as well. I still recommend getting the Kindle-formatted book from Amazon, which I have carefully tested. The Amazon links are in this post: Magento Product Types: Developer’s Guide

Your comments and Magento Questions

One of the most rewarding parts of blogging is getting comments and being asked questions on my work. Unfortunately recently I’ve been unable to quickly respond to your comments and give advice on your Magento problems. Currently I am deeply engaged in a startup and this takes all my time. For this reason I must recommend you to post questions on Magento StackExchange – the community there will help you faster and better than I ever could. I’m sorry, I’m not as available to my readers as I wished I would.

    • Hi Oğuz, thank you for your purchase!

There are already many good resources on general Magento extensions development, which is why I thought it would be better to concentrate on less known and more complex matters, such as product functionality or checkout. I’m currently working on a next book which will explain how sales, tax, and checkout work in Magento. Unfortunately the progress hasn’t been good lately, and I will have to re-edit some parts to reflect the changes that came with the latest versions of Magento.

  1. Another book on taxes would be quite useful. It is nearly 2015 and dealing with taxes in Magento is still a nightmare. I have worked on some prototype modules to give Magento turn-key tax solutions, but the lack of available accurate tax data makes these efforts pointless.

If you are a US based developer, join me in writing to your state’s legislature to get them to start providing an accurate sales tax dataset that we can start using. It is ridiculous that states and municipalities tell us we need to collect sales tax but they will not tell us what sales tax to collect.

Of course, if you live in Washington state, don’t bother, as they are leading the way and already provide a wealth of open tax data.

  2. Did u make any progress with your second book about sales/checkout and taxes?
PLs tell me u are near to finish and then I will buy both together in PDF/epub format.
